Free bin location label maker
Type how your racking is laid out and print a scannable label for every location: zone, aisle, bay, shelf and bin. Ordinary label paper, no sign up.
The label maker needs JavaScript. The codes it makes are described below.
Labels are half of it
A location label is only worth scanning if something knows what is on that shelf. StockRoom keeps every product in its location, walks a picker to the right bin, and counts one zone at a time.

How to lay out bin locations
Give every place stock can sit an address that reads like a route: the zone first, then the aisle, the bay along it, the shelf up from the floor, and the bin on that shelf. Somebody who has never been in the building can then walk to A-01-03-B-2 without asking.
Number aisles and bays with two digits so a list sorts in walking order, and letter shelves from the floor up so the same letter is the same height everywhere. Put the label on the shelf edge below the stock it names, at the same height along a run.
Questions people actually ask
What code goes on each label?
Zone, aisle, bay, shelf and bin, joined by hyphens: A-01-03-B-2 is zone A, aisle 1, bay 3, shelf B, bin 2. Aisles and bays have two digits so the labels sort in walking order, and shelves are lettered from the floor up. Leave bins at 0 and the shelf itself is the location: A-01-03-B.
Will my scanner read them?
Yes. They are Code 128, the barcode used on shipping labels, which every handheld scanner and phone camera reads. It carries letters and hyphens, which an EAN-13 product barcode cannot. Print at actual size: "fit to page" shrinks them, and a barcode printed small does not scan.
What paper do I need?
Avery L7160, 63.5 by 38.1 millimetres, three across and seven down, sold in every stationer. Any sheet with that grid works. For racking in a cold store or outdoors, use a polyester label on the same grid.
Can I keep the same locations in StockRoom?
Yes. Download it as a StockRoom file, then in StockRoom open the menu, choose Import and export, and pick the file under Bring a backup back in. Every zone, aisle, bay, shelf and bin arrives in the same tree with the same codes, added to what is already there rather than replacing it.
