Get it out the door
Pick
Gather an order in the order the shelves are in.
Picking is walking. Pick reserves what an order needs and lists it in the order the shelves are in, so one pass round the building fills the box. An order with eleven lines scattered across four aisles, sorted by nothing but the order they were typed, is the single biggest waste of a picker's afternoon this screen removes.
For anyone packing orders from shelves spread across more than one aisle.
What is on it
-
Reserve first
The moment something is reserved for an order, it stops being available to anybody else, so nobody promises the same box twice.
-
In shelf order
The list follows the building, not the order the lines were added, so you walk each aisle once.
-
Picked, or not there
Confirm each line as it goes in the box, or mark it not there, which frees that stock again.
-
Nothing leaves early
Stock only comes off the shelf when you confirm it is in your hand.
-
Put it down, pick it up
Put a pick down part way and carry on later. Open picks are listed by their order number.
-
Cancel cleanly
Cancel a pick and every reservation on it is released.
How it works
- Type the order number and start the pick.
- Reserve each line from the shelf it is on.
- Walk the list in shelf order and confirm each line as it goes in the box.
Questions people actually ask
What does reserving actually do?
It holds that stock for that order, so Sell will not let the same box be promised to somebody else. The stock stays where it is until you pick it, and Find shows it as reserved rather than pretending it has already gone.
Can I stop half way through a pick?
Yes. Put the pick down and come back to it: the order, the lines and the reservations are still there, on this device and in your account. Nothing leaves a shelf until you say you have picked it.
What if a shelf is empty when I get there?
Mark the line as not there. The rest of the order keeps its reservations, the shortfall is recorded against the order rather than quietly dropped, and the stock figure for that place is the one you just proved wrong, which is worth counting.
Can two people pick different orders from the same building at once?
Yes. Reservations are per order, not per building, so a second picker starting a different order sees exactly what is still free - including whatever the first pick has already claimed. Two people cannot end up reaching for the same last unit without one of them finding out immediately.
Is this a warehouse management system?
No, and it is not trying to be one. A full warehouse system optimises routes across a large building, assigns work across a team and integrates with automated equipment, and is priced and built for that scale. Pick does the smaller job most small businesses actually have: list an order in the order the shelves are in, reserve it so nothing gets promised twice, and confirm it as it goes in the box. If picking at genuine warehouse scale is the problem, dedicated warehouse software will serve you better than we will.
