Scan
Point the camera at a barcode.
The fastest way to a product. Point your phone at a barcode and StockRoom goes straight to it. A code it has not seen before starts a new product with the number already filled in. A goods-in bench taking forty boxes off a pallet does not have time for a search box, so this is the screen most people end up living in once the shelves are labelled.
For a goods-in bench or a shop floor where products already carry barcodes.
What is on it
-
Straight to the product
A barcode you already have opens that product, with nothing to search for.
-
New codes become new products
A barcode StockRoom has not seen takes you to adding it, with the number filled in.
-
Instant, or hold three seconds
Read a code the moment it is in view, or wait three seconds so the box can be turned the right way round.
-
Type it, or use a scanner
Type the number, or plug in a USB or Bluetooth scanner, which types into the same box.
-
Just scanned
The codes you have just scanned are listed, including the ones that are not on your list yet.
-
The picture stays on your phone
The camera picture never leaves the device.
How it works
- Open Scan and start the camera.
- Point it at a barcode.
- Land on that product, or on adding it if it is new.
What it does not do yet
A screen that looks like it did something it didn't is the worst outcome, so this is said here as plainly as it is in the app.
- Reading barcodes with the camera needs a browser that can do it. Chrome on Android and Microsoft Edge can; on other browsers, including Safari on an iPhone, type the number or use a USB or Bluetooth scanner.

Questions people actually ask
Does scanning work on an iPhone?
Reading a barcode with the camera needs a browser that can do it. Chrome on Android and Microsoft Edge can. Safari on an iPhone cannot, so on an iPhone you type the number or use a USB or Bluetooth scanner, which works everywhere and is faster than a camera anyway.
What happens when I scan a code the app has never seen?
It starts a new product with that barcode already filled in, so the thing in your hand becomes a product in one step. Nothing is created until you save it, and a code that belongs to a product you already have goes straight to that product instead.
Can I use a proper barcode scanner?
Yes, and for a busy goods-in bench it is the better tool. A USB or Bluetooth scanner types the number and presses enter, so put the cursor in the box and scan. Nothing has to be installed and nothing has to be paired with the app itself.
What if two products share the same-looking barcode by mistake?
They cannot. A barcode is unique across your whole account, so scanning one always lands on exactly one product, never a list to choose from. If a printed label is smudged or a digit is wrong, typing the number does the same lookup and shows you straight away that nothing matched.
Is this a warehouse barcode scanning system?
No. A warehouse scanning system wires fixed scanning stations, conveyor-mounted readers or pick-to-light hardware into a warehouse management system, and is priced and installed for that scale. Scan is a phone camera and a typed-number box: point it at a code, or type the code, and land on the product. That is enough for a shop or small warehouse working off shelves and a phone. If the problem is scanning volume moving on a conveyor, or hands-free scanning across a large building, dedicated warehouse hardware will serve you better than a phone camera will.
